If You’re Exhausted, Overwhelmed, Or Frustrated With Your Health —
You’re Not Alone.

Many of my patients come to me after being told “everything looks fine,” even though they don’t feel fine at all. At STAT Wellness Charleston,

we take your concerns seriously

and work together to understand what your body is asking for.

Hi, I’m Athena

& I’m really glad you’re here.

If you’ve landed here, there’s a good chance you’re not feeling your best — and maybe you’ve been told everything looks “normal,” even though you know something still feels off.

At STAT Wellness Charleston, my goal is simple:
to help you feel better without pressure, perfection, or overwhelm.

I’m Athena Newell, FNP-C, a Family Nurse Practitioner specializing in functional and lifestyle medicine, with a special focus on women’s health. I work with people who want answers, clarity, and a healthcare experience that actually feels supportive.

My story

I’m a wife and mom of three, which means I understand firsthand how full — and sometimes exhausting — life can be. Between work, family, and everything else on your plate, your health often gets pushed to the bottom of the list. I get it.

I’ve been practicing medicine since 2011, and over the years I noticed something important:

so many people were leaving appointments with more questions than answers.

That’s what led me to functional medicine — a way of practicing that slows down, looks at the whole picture, and treats you like a person, not a checklist.

Outside the office

When I’m not working with patients, I’m usually with my family, finding ways to move my body that feel good, or experimenting with nourishing meals at home. Wellness isn’t just something I talk about — it’s something I’m continually practicing too.

Our process

When you come to Athena Newell Wellness, you won’t be rushed. You won’t be brushed off. And you definitely won’t be handed a one-size-fits-all plan.

Instead, you can expect:

  • Conversations that feel relaxed and collaborative

  • Time to talk through your symptoms, concerns, and goals

  • Clear explanations (no confusing medical jargon)

  • A plan that makes sense for your life

We focus on progress over perfection — small, meaningful steps that add up over time.

My Approach
to Wellness

Functional medicine is about asking better questions
Rather than just treating symptoms, we look at what may be contributing to them — things like hormones, stress, digestion, sleep, movement, and nutrition.

Everything is connected, and your care should reflect that.
This doesn’t mean doing everything at once. It means choosing what matters most
right now and building from there.

What I Can
Help With

I work with patients who are navigating:

  • Hormonal changes and imbalances

  • Low energy, burnout, or chronic stress

  • Digestive concerns

  • inflammation

  • General “something feels off” feelings

  • A desire for a more thoughtful, personalized approach to health

If you’re looking for care that feels realistic, compassionate, and empowering —

you’re in the right place.
